FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 15, 2023

FOR MORE INFORMATION, CONTACT:

Mrs. Keri Del Vecchio, Director of Admissions & Communications

(716) 688-5323

PRESS RELEASE: St. Gregory the Great School Raises Funds for Clean Water in South Sudan

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY - St. Gregory the Great Middle School students raised nearly $20,000 for the Water for South Sudan organization. This organization’s mission is to deliver sustainable quality-of-life services to and with the people of South Sudan by efficiently providing access to clean, safe water, and improving hygiene and sanitation practices in areas of great need.

St. Greg’s esteemed Middle School ELA teacher, Mrs. Julie Rappold, spearheaded this global service project with her students and raised a total of $19,206 over 2 years. She used her 24 years of teaching experience and creativity to inspire her students to think “outside-the-box” on how to raise funds for this humanitarian cause. Mrs. Rappold’s ELA students brainstormed and generated multiple ways to boost interest and increase participation within St. Greg’s school and community. Students learned how to write formal business letters and publicity announcements, create forms to collect monetary donations at Mass, and exercised financial responsibility by counting money for deposits.

Mrs. Rappold encouraged her students to collaborate with peers and designed a logo for fundraising literature. They also created a presentation that was used when meeting with community members about this fundraising campaign. From start to finish, the St. Greg’s South Sudan Well Project motivated Mrs. Rappold’s students and the school community at large, to offer their time, talent and treasure for a global, greater good.

"We are incredibly proud of the compassion and enthusiasm shown by our students and their families in support of Water for South Sudan," said Mr. Ted Luckett, Principal of St. Gregory the Great School. "This initiative goes beyond our school walls; it reflects our commitment to instilling values of empathy and social responsibility in our students."

This successful fundraising campaign exemplifies St. Gregory the Great School's commitment to fostering a sense of global citizenship and making a positive impact on the world. The school community looks forward to future opportunities to contribute to meaningful causes and inspire positive change. For more information about the Water for South Sudan project, visit their website at www.waterforsouthsudan.org.

In partnership with the parish community, St. Gregory the Great School dedicates itself to provide a quality academic foundation; to the formation of faith through knowledge and understanding of the church; to provide a spirit of welcome, compassion and reconciliation; and to encourage the generous development and sharing of our God-given talents.

For more information, please contact St. Gregory the Great School at (716) 688-5323 or information@stgregsschool.org, or visit the website at www.strgregsschool.org.
