This morning I will be proof reading your first paragraphs. Make sure to go back and read the comments!
Today we will start the second para. While the first gave background on your topic, the second should specifically address the topic. Remember to include several facts/details!
-Should be around 6-10 sentences.
-specific facts would include dates, names, statistics or numbers, or place names.
- If you want to work ahead, the 3rd para should discuss why you chose this topic. Please focus on the impact your topic had on US history, as opposed to giving a more personal thought (D-Day is so cool! no. D-Day had an incredible impact on WWII and thus 20th century history, yes!)
-Essay is due on Friday 6/12 (this Friday!) and will be the "Final" grade of the trimester.

Today and Wednesday we will have virtual class during your normal block time. These are optional and you only need to join in if you have a question! See you there
If any changes are needed, you will see my notes there.
-Your first paragraph should give some background to your topic. For instance, what lead to the attack on Pearl Harbor or what caused the Dust Bowl.
-Make sure your paragraph has several specific facts/details.
-Should be 5-10 sentences
-Note next Monday we will do para two and on Wed para three and conclusion. The essay will be due on Friday 6/12
-Included is the rubric that will be used to grade the essay! Take a look or even print it out for reference.

For those who are exempt: You are free to concentrate on your Honors ELA, Earth Science, and/or Algebra studies and prep. Happy June! We are on the final leg of our voyage.
Final Project:
You picked a topic as your favorite of the year. You will use this topic to write a three paragraph essay over the next two weeks. It will consist of:
-a 2-3 sentence introduction
-two paragraphs describing your topic
-a third paragraph explaining why you chose this particular topic
- a 2-3 sentence conclusion to wrap it up
We will 'chunk' the project out over the next 4 classes and it will be due on Friday 6/12.

Today's task: Using your book, notes, and one outside source create a list of 8-10 facts that you plan to use in your essay. Next write a 2-3 sentence intro for your paper (just a rough draft) You will turn BOTH of these in. Due Wednesday!

EXEMPT:
For those not doing the final project:
Please write 3-5 sentences on what you felt was the most unusual or controversial topic we covered this year, Also due Wednesday.
Congratulations to all who earned exemptions! Great work! Even if you are exempt, I would like everyone to do this assignment!
-Pick the most interesting person, event. or issue we covered in class this year. Be specific, not too broad. (WWII would be way too broad, while the attack on Pearl Harbor or Rosie the Riveter would be a more manageable topic)
-Write a short paragraph (3-5 sentences) describing why you picked this particular topic.
-For those who are not exempt, we will continue on with this topic for our final essay. We will be writing the essay (three paragraphs!) over our last four class periods and will hand it in on Friday 6/12. There will be alternate assignments for the exempt folks.
-Would everyone please double check eschool, as a growing group of students are missing work. We are almost there, hang on!
Due to the short time we have left, we will skip the notebook section and go right to handing in the summaries of each section. Please read and summarize with one sentence the following sections:
-The United Nations p 412
-The Iron Curtain p 413-414
-Truman Doctrine p 414
-Marshall Plan p 414
-Berlin Airlift p 415-416
-NATO and Warsaw Pact p 416-417

No need to do notebook notes, just hand in a single sentence for each section giving the main points.

-For the last assignment of the semester I would like you to think about what was your favorite person, topic, or event we covered this year. Try to keep it fairly specific and not too broad. We'll discuss in virtual class today!
A sad topic today. But, a topic I think a lot of us are somewhat familiar with.
-Read page 299 in your text. No need to take notes.
-Access one more source. You may use a book, an article, or the internet. If you read "Night" in class, you may use that.
-Check the document attatched and follow the directions. First, come up with a question and then craft an answer to your question.
-The question should be specific, not too broad.
-Your answer should be a paragraph and follow all the 'rules'for a well written paragraph. Intro or topic sentence, a body with facts from your sources, and a conclusion. Watch spelling and caps, too!
-About 7-10 sentences total. You may put your answer right here as usual, no need to actually write on the doc.

Next virtual class this Thursday 5/21! See you there, bring your questions.
Last task was to take notes on four sections that outlined the War in the Pacific. As I can not grade your notebook, You will give me a summary of each section. Just like we did for the previous, European war, sections,
-First, write the name of the section "Japanese Victories' for example.
-Under that heading, write a full RACES style sentence, with one or more specific facts, summarizing that section.
-In this case, there are four sections to summarize, so you should have four headings and four sentences. Again, just like we did for the last reading.
- See you in virtual class today! Bring your questions!
