Please check eschool to make sure all of your work is in and graded. Some of you have "Incompletes" because I made comments on your submitted assignments that need to be corrected and/or finished and resubmitted. GRADES CLOSE ON FRIDAY 6/12 SO THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! If you have questions or need help please contact me. We can video chat if that will make it easier for you. Some students have found that to be helpful. Just a few more days to go...YOU CAN DO THIS!!! :-)
Welcome to the Romantic Era! This was a time when composers and artists exercised their freedom of expression. You will recognize some of the music and composers from this era. Beethoven is said to have bridged the gap between the Classical and Romantic eras as his music started out more classical and morphed into romanic when he expressed his tormented feelings in his music. Those of you who had a piece by Beethoven to review could probably tell he put his emotions in his music. He has been placed in both eras so you may hear his name mentioned again.

Please read the page on Romantic Art and Music and answer the questions.

7th grade Classical Era Project!

You have been assigned a link to a piece of music by Haydn, Mozart or Beethoven to review. I will email it to you. (“The inclusion of links to other websites does not imply any endorsements of the material, postings, advertisements or comments on those websites. St. Gregory the Great Parish reserves the right to remove objectionable content if and when we become aware of it.”)

Listen carefully to it more than once so you can become familiar with it. Please review the music like you are a music critic. Your review must contain musical facts about the piece:

Instrumentation - what instruments do you hear? Some pieces have a full orchestra, some only one instrument

Dynamics - How loud or soft is the music? Does it change? If so, how?

Tempo - How fast or slow is the music? Does it change? If so, how? (Remember: louder may feel faster and softer may feel slower. Tap your foot, does it tap the same throughout or do you have to tap faster or slower to stay with the music?)

Mood/Feeling - How does the music make you feel? What emotions do you think the composer is trying to convey?

Picture it - What does the music “look” like to you? What images come to mind. (You can use a real image if you’d like)

Your review must contain an opinion about the piece of music. Did you like it or not? You do not have to like it but you must tell me why you didn’t like it using facts about it.

Your review must contain a brief biography about the composer. Also, tell me what intrigues you most about him.

You can submit this in any format you prefer. You may make a document or video or poster (take a picture of it and upload it to me) or send me everything in an email if that's easier. Have fun with this, get to know your composer a little bit and enjoy the music! :-)

IF ANY OF THE LINKS ARE NOT CORRECT OR IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, PLEASE EMAIL ME! :-)
Please continue to turn in your work on the Baroque composers. Today we enter the Classical era, one of my favorites! This era shifted the music from the fancy Baroque style of music written mostly for the elite classes of people to music that was easier to listen to and for the average person. Read the sheet on the Classical era of art and music. (You can't talk about art without music and visa versa as the Arts are all related to each other.) Complete the word scramble and just send me your answers. Please complete this by Thursday.

“The inclusion of links to other websites does not imply any endorsements of the material, postings, advertisements or comments on those websites.
