For Computer Class this cycle I would like everyone to try to do some coding using the following link I have provided. You will start off by creating your own coding monster and when finished you will see the "START" button in the top corner. Hit this to begin. Get as far as you can in this for about 30 minutes. If you finish it great, if not no worries. For many of us it is our first time coding so just do what you can and try not to get frustrated. Have fun everyone!
Good morning boys and girls.
I hope you all were able to enjoy the amazing weekend we just had.

I have seen some of your self portraits and they are awesome. Thank you for all the time and effort you have been putting into your artwork.

Now that we finally have some warm weather I thought it would be fun to draw some flowers.
I spent a lot of time outside this weekend and did a ton of gardening. I planted flowers and plants in my gardens.
I cant wait to see the beautiful flowers they become.

Please look at the Power Point presentation linked below.
Georgia O'Keeffe was one of the greatest female artists that ever lived. She lived a very long life and died at the age of 99. She created many famous paintings in her lifetime. Some of her most famous paintings were flowers.
She painted flowers in a way that most of us do not see. We look at the flower from the outside and it usually looks pretty small. Georgia O'Keeffe drew and painted flowers from a really close up view. The flowers looked enormous in her paintings which is very different than how we see flowers. That was part of her originality as an artist.

If you are able, please watch this YouTube video about Georgia O'Keeffe.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djkXEYLkB08

Today I would like you to draw some flowers.
Choose some flowers that you see near your house or some that you find on the computer or ipad.
Please look at the Power Point presentation and follow the directions for Day 1.
1. Draw a dotted line or circles to make 2 or 3 flower centers.
2. Draw big, giant petals.
3. Draw leaves and stems.
4. Outline with black marker and crayon.
5. Pick a different color of crayon and add details on the petals and in the center of the flower.

You can change the colors of the flowers to match your mood just like Georgia O'Keeffe. If you are sad you might want to color the flowers in cool colors, if your happy the flowers can be warm colors. Colors reflect our feelings, so you should make your flowers match your feelings.

I hope you enjoy drawing the flowers. It will really make it feel like Spring.

We are going to be finishing up with keyboarding this week. I have included 3 apps for you to try. You may switch between any of the 3 and work for 30 minutes this week. Try your best to look at the keyboard and find the keys that you are supposed to hit. For Keyboarding Zoo 2 it will focus on using capital letters as well as lower case ones. Have a great week everyone!

Good morning boys and girls.

Today I would like you to add color to your portraits. Remember to color yourself the way you look in real life.
Skin tone, eye color and hair color, should all match how you look in real life.

Your backgrounds should also be colored neatly to look like what you drew.
If you drew the outside make sure you have a horizon line separating the ground from the sky, and color them appropriately.
If you drew yourself inside you should also have a horizon line that separates the floor from the walls that are also colored appropriately.

Be neat, take your time, use your colors carefully and have fun.

Please mark as turned in when you finish. We will begin a new project next class.
Echo songs are so much fun to sing, especially around a campfire!

This is one of my favorite echo songs called Down By The Bay. It’s very silly! You’ll have fun singing along with this one. Listen to the lady sing and then sing the echo with the kids. Which verse is your favorite? Can you make up your own silly verse? If you do, share it with me and your whole class!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kP0SlO1KpjA

“The inclusion of links to other websites does not imply any endorsements of the material, postings, advertisements or comments on those websites. Good morning boys and girls.

Before we left school we had worked on self portraits in the style of Pablo Picasso. Those portraits had mixed up faces and unusual colors.
Today I would like you to draw a realistic self portrait.

Your portrait should be lightly sketched and then drawn with more detail added.
Remember that the shape of a human head is an upside down egg. Try your best to properly draw all of your facial features the right size and in the right spot.
Your bodies should also be carefully drawn to look realistic. I have included some artwork by other first graders. They did a great job with their heads, faces and bodies.
Please look at these examples before you begin your drawings.

Your backgrounds should be drawn to look like somewhere inside your house or outside your house.
Same as the portraits, your backgrounds should be lightly sketched first before adding detail.

Please do not add any color until next class. I really want you to take your time and do your best with the pencil drawing.
Have fun and do your best!
