7th Grade Science-2019-2020 Assignments

This will be your end-of-year project. I will break down what you should be doing each class/week so you should never have too much to do at once.

Did you enjoy researching your topic for the project?

The video goes over the first example, so you only need to do part b and c on your own. They all use muscular dystrophy as the trait, but there are many types of muscular dystrophy, so not all of your answers will necessarily be the same.

Draw, label, and shade the pedigrees. Don't forget to read the directions at the top which tells you what questions to answer about each example. Make sure you explain your reasoning!

How are you doing with Pedigrees?

Draw a pedigree for the two families. You can draw on a separate sheet of paper. Upload a photo of your work to classroom.

Will you be celebrating Cinco de Mayo on this Taco Tuesday?

For this activity you will need two coins.
Heads = dominant trait (uppercase letter)
Tails = recessive trait (lowercase letter)

For each trait, you will flip both of your coins at the same time. If you get two heads, your genotype is homozygous dominant. If you gets two tails, your genotype is homozygous recessive, and if you get one of each, your genotype will be heterozygous.

The second two pages are what each phenotype the genotype codes for. For example, for the trait "body shape", if you get two heads, your genotype is RR and your phenotype would be round.

Flip your coins to get all of your genotypes and phenotypes. Once you finish, draw your what your bug should look like based on its genes. Upload your photo when you are finished!

How do you feel about viruses?

Read the following information from the CDC (Center for Disease Control)

3. How does antibiotic resistance spread?

4. What are 3 ways we can help fight antibiotic resistance?

How are you feeling about bacteria?

Copy the notes in your notebook. I will be collecting notebooks when we are back at school, so for now, you do not need to send me a picture of your notes.

What is your favorite TV show?

1. Watch the video and do the experiment yourself if you have the supplies (if you don't have the supplies just answer the questions as you watch the video)

2. Type the answers to the questions on a Google doc

3. Submit your answers through Google Classroom (please do not "share" your work, it is too hard for me to keep track of assignments this way). If you need help with directions on how to submit please let me know

4. Take a picture of your experiment if you can! I would LOVE to see you guys working on it!! (you can email it to me at [email protected])

5. The questions to the labs are due on Wednesday. Any of the questions that ask you to draw or sketch what you are seeing you can just describe with a sentence or two.

6. If you have a question, ask by leaving a private comment on the assignment
