Service Learning

"Love and charity, are service, helping others, serving others. There are many people who spend their lives in this way, in the service of others. … When you forget yourself and think of others, this is love! And with the washing of the feet the Lord teaches us to be servants, and above all, servants as He was a servant to us, for every one of us."-- Pope Francis, Jubilee audience, March 12, 2016

Response to Love Center

The Response to Love Center is a non-profit organization that is committed to serving and caring for the homeless and less fortunate members of our community. The center opened in 1985 and is lead by Sr. Mary Johnice Rzadkiewicz and a group of dedicated volunteers. There are many different facilities at the center that serve those in need. Such facilities include a kitchen, dining hall, thrift store, food pantry, and a chapel. Students have the opportunity to serve at the Response to Love Center at least once during their eighth grade year. Students spend the day at the center serving in the kitchen as well as doing other activities such as assisting in the food pantry. These visits enable students to experience the importance and joy of serving others within their community.

Food Shuttle of Western New York

Seventh grade students and their families have been helping the Food Shuttle of WNY transport excess prepared and perishable food from super-markets, bakeries, restaurants, and other food sources to soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and other "care communities" throughout the Buffalo area since 2001. With the Food Shuttle being an all-volunteer organization, St. Greg's students make a huge difference!
