Art - 6/1/2020 in Google Classroom

Art - 6/1/2020

Good morning everyone.

Today we will begin our final art project of the school year.

Drawing a view through a window is a challenging task but there is something rewarding about trying to capture what you can see through each pane of glass or section. When you start, lots of decisions are going to be made. Which window has a good view? Where are you going to sit? Are you going to draw any of the inside, or just the window frame and outside?

Your task today is to draw a view through a window. First look at the examples I have included in the linked folder.
These were not all done by students so do not get nervous.
You will immediately notice that all of these drawings are black and white.
I am challenging you to also draw in black and white. Include all different gray tones necessary by using different amounts of pressure with your pencil. These are called values.
You can blend and smudge with your finger or a tissue.

Remember to lightly sketch and plan your drawing before adding detail. Pay close attention to the size of objects as they get further away as well as the amount of detail you see in far away objects. Objects changing in size, height on the page and amount of detail is what we call visual perspective. We are drawing the way our eyes actually see things.

For today please sketch and draw your picture with all the detail you feel is necessary. Next class we will talk more about value and using black, white and gray. If you feel ready to begin adding your values to your drawing you may.
As always take your time and enjoy what you are drawing. Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Mark as turned in when you finish. Have a great week.

If you get stuck, you may jump ahead, or if it is too difficult for you, you may choose one of the lower levels to get you going(sequencing or loops). There is no amount of levels that you must complete as everyone works at their own pace."

Using the notes of the treble clef staff, see how many words you can "spell" with notes like we did with the past two assignments.
You can make your own staff (five lines, four spaces) and add a treble clef to the beginning like I make on my white board at school. Remember, your treble clef doesn't have to be perfect, the greatest composers had trouble making them! Send me what you come up with! Have fun :-)

Art - 5/19/2020 in Google Classroom

Art - 5/19/2020

Good morning.

It is time to begin adding color to our projects.
The color you add must be done using what is known as color theory.

Piet Mondrian used only primary colors in his later work. He chose those colors because they are the simplest most basic colors to use. You will have more choices than that.

I would like you to choose one of the following color schemes:
1. primary colors - red, yellow and blue
2. secondary colors - green, orange and purple
3. warm colors - red, yellow and orange
4. cool colors - blue, green and purple
5. monochromatic (one color) - any color plus a darker shade of that color and a lighter tint of that color.
example - red, pink (tint), dark red (shade)

You may only choose one scheme and must stick to it. Black will also be used to fill in the lines.
Some white spaces should also be showing. Please look at the examples in the folder.

Take your time, be neat and show good craftsmanship.

Art - 5/7/2020 in Google Classroom

Art - 5/7/2020

Good morning.
I hope you enjoyed drawing your favorite animal last week.

Today we will begin the next step of our project.

Piet Mondrian was an abstract artist. Late in his career as an artist he simplified his art work into the most basic structure he could.
He only used vertical and horizontal lines to create his work.
We will be doing the same thing with our drawings.
All the lines you draw in your contour must be made with a ruler and must be perfectly straight vertical or horizontal.
These lines will create right angles where they intersect. Erase where they meet so they appear as shown in the example.

Please look at the examples of step 1 and step 2 in the folder.
We will discuss color options next class.
For today I would like you to make sure your contour is accurate and that all the lines you draw are straight.
This will take time and patience, but will look great when finished. You should go over your contour with a black marker.

I will be looking specifically at the accuracy of your contour and how well you work with the ruler. These are the 2 most important parts of the project thus far.

Good morning.

If you have not completed your Pop Art project please do so. Sign it and share with me if you can. Remember to mark as turned in so I know you completed it.

Today we are going to learn about Piet Mondrian.
Please look at the PowerPoint presentation to learn a little about the artist and his art style.
Just like Jasper Johns, Piet Mondrian also has artwork at the Albright Knox Art Gallery.

Piet Mondrian was an abstract artist which means he created his art work using only shapes and colors that did not represent anything recognizable.
We are going to create "Mondrianimals" for our project.
Your animal shape should be recognizable but nothing else about the animal will be natural.
There is an example of a contour drawing in the folder.

Please start by drawing a contour drawing (only the shape, no detail) of your favorite animal. Please use a reference for accuracy.
The animal is the focal point of the work so it should be drawn large and neat. Remember to sketch first and than modify your drawing for neatness and accuracy of shape.
Your animal drawing should have almost no detail or texture. You may add an eye or mouth if you would like.
Please look at the completed examples in the folder to see the contour shapes of the animals.

We will discuss the lines and colors next class.
Have fun!

5/6 Wednesday Morning Meeting in Google Classroom

5/6 Wednesday Morning Meeting

Good morning HR 401! I don’t know about you but I’ve seen so many birds recently. It made me wonder more. Take a look at the Brain Pop on Birds. Make sure to try Bird Song Hero after. It’s pretty interesting.

Don’t forget we’re on our new schedule of morning meeting, math & ELA video conferences. I attached the schedule below.

On to today’s question! Yesterday Ms. Dennis reminded everyone of the ELA assignments. Today is a Math Assignment check. ONLY if you haven’t submitted ANY math Teacher Checks with me then here is today’s assignment:

Since we returned from Easter Break you should have completed 5 Math Teacher Checks:
-Out of all the math lessons you have done, share your top 3 with me
- Send a picture of your 3 favorite lessons to me [email protected]
- They are due by Thursday May 7
-Then make sure to clear out your math assignments by “marking as done”

If I do not receive 3 math lessons from you by then, I will assume you did not see this assignment and will contact your parents so they can pass the message on to you.

If you have submitted Teacher Checks then you are all set this morning and can just enjoy the Brain Pop.I appreciate your hard work. I know these are tough times but I'm here for you. If you need help, please email me.

Pop Art - Step 1

Today we will be continuing our Pop Art lesson and project.
I have attached the Jasper Johns presentation as well as other helpful material.

We will need to start from the beginning but this will give you the opportunity to begin with a new idea. Remember that pop art deals with popular, easy to recognize and understand imagery.

You can continue with letters and numbers or you can choose other appropriate imagery. You do not need to use a stencil this time if you do not have any. Remember to create a 1 inch border on your paper.

Only complete the pencil drawing portion of the project. Remember to draw lightly and begin with a sketch that eventually will become your completed drawing. The examples I am including are completed projects. Please only complete todays portion of the project.

I will explain the next step on our next E day. This project can be completed on a piece of printer paper or any other paper that is available to you. You should spend 30 to 40 minutes on this drawing. Please take your time and put in your best effort.

If you have a question about the project, please ask. Have fun!

Morning Meeting
Hello 401 - Happy Friday - Today is special for me because it is my best friend’s birthday. Her name is Bonne and we have been friends since Kindergarten. We refer to each other as LYLAS - that stands for Love You Like A Sister. To help her celebrate we made something special for her. I dropped it off at her house last night and in the morning her daughter is going to put it on their breakfast table so she gets it at the start of her day. Below is a picture of what we made. For today’s morning meeting, add a comment about what makes your best friend special to you.
