Good morning boys and girls.

Now that we finally have some Spring type weather I thought it would be fun to draw some flowers.

Georgia O'Keeffe was one of the greatest female artists that ever lived. She lived a very long life and died at the age of 99. She created many famous paintings in her lifetime. Some of her most famous paintings were flowers.
She painted flowers in a way that most of us do not see. We look at the flower from the outside and it usually looks pretty small. Georgia O'Keeffe drew and painted flowers from a really close up view. The flowers looked enormous in her paintings which is very different than how we see flowers. That was part of her originality as an artist.

If you are able, please watch this YouTube video about Georgia O'Keeffe.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djkXEYLkB08

Today I would like you to draw some flowers any way that you want. You are the artist and you should draw in your style.
Choose some flowers that you see near your house or some that you find on the computer or ipad.
You can change the colors of the flowers to match your mood just like Georgia O'Keeffe. If you are sad you might want to color the flowers in cool colors, if your happy the flowers can be warm colors. Colors reflect our feelings, so you should make your flowers match your feelings. Do not forget a background if you have space for one, or a vase to hold the flowers.

If you enjoy drawing the flowers you can draw as many different kinds as you want. I have included some examples of flowers made by cutting and gluing different shapes and colors of paper. You could try this if you have colored paper.

We are going to be finishing up with keyboarding this week. I have included a new app for you to try. If you get frustrated you may do Keyboarding Zoo again. Try your best to look at the keyboard and find the keys that you are supposed to hit. For Keyboarding Zoo 2 it will focus on using capital letters as well as lower case ones. Have a great week everyone!

Good morning boys and girls.

Today we are going to create a piece of abstract art.
Abstract art is art that is unrecognizable. It is made up of colors and shapes that do not look like anything we recognize from real life.

For this drawing you can use shapes that have straight lines and corners like squares, rectangles and triangles also called geometric shapes.
You can also use shapes with curvy and wavy lines. These shapes are called organic shapes.

I would like you also to use patterns in your artwork. Patterns are shapes, colors or lines that repeat in order over and over.

I have included step by step directions in the folder linked below.

Remember to use your primary and secondary colors like the examples.
Primary colors = red, yellow and blue
Secondary colors= orange, green and purple

Be careful not to rush. Even though this type of art looks easy, it is easy to go fast and be sloppy. If you look carefully at the examples you will see that the shapes are drawn neatly with a lot of different kinds. There is also a great variety of different colors.
Please take your time and have fun. We will be learning more about abstract art in the future.

Good morning everyone. I hope you all enjoyed your weekend.
You are all doing great work. Thank you for all the effort you have been putting forward.

For this week I would like you to create a sketch and eventually a final drawing of your choice.
A lot of the projects we do don't always give you the freedom to choose your topics.
I would like you to come up with a completely original idea, or choose an idea from the sketchbook assignment linked below.

Remember to follow the same steps we do in class. All good artists sketch first before finalizing their idea and drawing.
After your idea is complete and drawn you can work in black and white or color.
You may choose whatever art materials you have at home to complete the picture.

Be creative and do your best. Use any references you may need to help you draw. This is your chance to have complete freedom over your artwork.
Remember, if you a hard time coming up with an idea you can look at the sketchbook ideas. The link is below.

Have fun with this project and remember that you can be creative and use your imaginations.

Good morning everyone.

I hope you enjoyed working on the sunrise/sunset drawings last week.

Today we will be drawing some silhouettes. If you remember from art class a silhouette is a shape that is created because an object is blocking the light. That shape is black and has no detail. I have included some examples of silhouettes in the folder.

Today, please draw 5 or more silhouetted shapes on a piece of paper. If your landscape has water you should choose silhouettes appropriate for the water. If you chose grass, then your silhouettes should be appropriate for grass. I have included an example of some silhouette shapes I have drawn. If you are still working on your sunset/sunrise drawing please complete that so we can move on to the next step next class.

Please be neat, take your time, be creative, use your imaginations and most importantly, have fun!

Good morning boys and girls.

We will be working on the project we had recently started in school. We will need to start from the beginning but can have fun starting fresh.

This week I would like you to work on your sunrise/sunset pictures.

We will be using crayons or colored pencils instead of construction paper.

Remember the sunset will be made by using warm colors. Those are red, yellow and orange.
We will be adding a horizon line. That is where the sky meets the land.
Under the horizon line you will use a cool color to represent the ground or water. Cool colors are blue, purple and green.

You may use any kind of drawing paper you have in your house.

I have included an example of this weeks work for you to look at.

Have fun everyone. I miss seeing you all.
