Today and through our Easter break, I still I want you to write from the heart. Just write your thoughts down in your journal each day. I like to write at night, since it helps me think about my day.

Not only is journal writing a form of personal therapy, but it is a great way to get you in the habit of writing on a regular basis. You don have to worry about grading, criticism, or being judged. You can write Fast and Furious, or Slow and Precise, either way goes. It helps release feelings, and can shed gratefulness and new light on our lives and the situations we are dealt with.
You are going through a part of World History that has never been experienced before. I want you to keep writing in your journal daily, and maybe you can pull this journal out years later and share with your friends, family, or even grand kids. This event is changing our world day by day, so write and reflect how it is effecting you, the people you love, and it may even change how you look at life differently now.

Today is a day for you to relax, but most importantly, catch up on any past work you have not submitted. Your assignments are not that hard, yet they are meaningful and important for you to do, to the best of your ability. This last Research writing piece could possibly be considered as your year end final exam when completed, so gathering as much details and information will be essential for a great final product.

The 6th grade team will email you as soon as we get our Google Meet times for subject areas available. Just keep checking your Google Classroom postings for next week. I miss all of you and want to thank you for working hard and being great kids. I know each family situation is different, but I am available if you need me, so please reach out. Hello Everyone,
Use today to study for your Percy test tomorrow. It will be multiple choice and short answer.
The study guide was included in the packet for Reading that was picked up at school before break.
Here are some things to study:

*Facts about Mrs. Dodd's, who was she?
*Who was Nancy Bobofitt?
*Who was in charge of the Underworld and Ferry?

*What is a demi-god?
*Know Vocabulary listed on the study guide packet
*Short answer- Pick a battle from the story and describe using details and why it was a significant part of the story.

Please have your parents check their e-mails. School materials are being distributed at the school tomorrow, between 10:30 am-3:30 pm. (Tuesday 7th)
The 6th grade has Math, Social/Science, and ELA material for assignments that are needed for students to be picked up. They are all together in a bundle for each student.

This is the e-mail that was sent to parents on Friday:
As a follow up to the original email that was sent on April 3, we would like to provide you with an updated plan following CDC recommendations as to how pick-up will be operated on Tuesday, April 7 between 10:30AM and 3:30PM.

Each car will pull into the circle following the cones. We will have orange cones set-up making two (2) lanes of traffic as you enter the main circle.
Please proceed forward slowly, place your car in park when asked and wait for us to approach you.
Each car will roll down the passenger window and state the students' names/homeroom for who they are picking up materials. If it is easier and more comfortable the driver may list of the name of the student(s) and homeroom number(s) on a sheet of paper and hold or tape to the window.
Then each car will open their trunk.
Staff will load all of the materials into your trunk.
Then proceed slowly out the traffic circle.
Weather permitting materials will be organized by grade on tables outside. Our staff will be wearing masks and gloves while distributing the materials to you. We ask that you stay inside of your vehicles, patiently wait for us to come to you. We do not want anyone injured and want to practice the utmost safety procedures. Anyone that parks their car and walks towards any staff will be kindly asked to return their vehicles to get in line and patiently wait.

1. What is the internal conflict of Auggie (How August feels inside) when he identifies with the teacher finding out about her mother dying?
In other words, How is Auggie feeling? Is this bringing up more sadness for him? Is he struggling with his own internal problems or is he deeply saddened?

I do ask that you please start to read a book of your choice and make a log. This will be for pleasure reading. Reading is important as it improves your comprehension, and vocabulary. You can even pick a book that a couple of you would like to read together, and share your thoughts as you read.

This year we have already discussed and covered inferencing while reading. Since we are all home now, watching more television, can inferencing be used in the same way? Here is a review and an assignment for you.

What is an example of an inference?
When we make inferences while reading, we are using the evidence that is available in the text to draw a logical conclusion. ... Examples of Inference: A character has a diaper in her hand, spit-up on her shirt, and a bottle warming on the counter. You can infer that this character is a mother. Inferences are based on facts given, so it is more clear than making a prediction.

How do you make an inference in reading?
Making an inference involves using what you know to make a guess about what you don't know or reading between the lines. Readers who make inferences use the clues in the text along with their own experiences to help them figure out what is not directly said, making the text personal and memorable. It is the same when watching a television program or movie.

Inference is a mental process by which we reach a conclusion based on specific evidence. Inferences are the stock and trade of detectives examining clues, of doctors diagnosing diseases, and of car mechanics repairing engine problems. We infer motives, purpose, and intentions.

1) After watching the video, what inferences can you make?
2) Do you use inferencing and make connections while reading or watching television without even knowing it? How?

Daphne, for chapter 9 we are going to start talking about conflicts that Auggie is facing as he gets ready to go to Beecher prep. Attached is a graphic organizer that you can type right into the boxes. I'd like you to choose one conflict that Auggie is facing, so you will be using RACES to fill out just one box on this organizer. They are split up by type of conflict, just choose the type that best fits your conflict. What is the conflict he is facing, and is it resolved? I included an example from chapter 8.

Chapter 21 – I Settle My Tab

The news of the Santa Monica Pier incident and Percy’s kidnapping was covered up nicely by the media and Percy was no longer perceived as an international criminal.

Annabeth, Percy and Grover fly back to New York. They split up and Percy heads to the Empire State Building. At the security desk, Percy shows the guard the bolt and requests to be taken up to see Zeus.

Percy states his case before Zeus and Poseidon. He also tells them he feels there was someone else besides Hades who was responsible for everything and explains why. Zeus let’s Percy live and tells him not to cause such commotions again and disappears. Poseidon and Percy believe Kronos the King of Titans is to blame for causing the war. Poseidon then tells Percy his mother has returned and he will find a package when he returns home.

Characters in stories always have internal and external conflicts. Ares and Percy have internal conflicts with their dreams. They both struggle with being told what to do, from someone else in their dreams, and then act on those strong suggestions. Their external conflicts are the physical actions they take against one another.

After reading Chapter 20, answer these two questions using RACES. RESTATE, ANSWER, CITE, EXAMPLES, SUM UP.
1). Ares has vivid dreams like Percy does. These vivid dreams tell Ares what to do. Who is behind those dreams which come to Ares?

-Daphne will be expected to complete one assignment daily on google classroom. The assignment posted will either be:
1) Journal Writing along with everyone else (for example, the post from today)
2) (if it is not a journal day) Mrs. Rappold will post a chapter reflection for Daphne to write about the next chapter of wonder. The reflections will now be more specific because they will now take the place of Percy Jackson so we will be aligning the prompts to the 6th grade standards.

R – Review or reflect on it. Close your eyes. Take three deep breaths. Focus. You can start with “I feel…” or “I want…” or “I think…” or “Today….” or “Right now…” or “In this moment…”

I – Investigate your thoughts and feelings. Start writing and keep writing. Follow the pen/keyboard. If you get stuck or run out of juice, close your eyes and re-center yourself. Re-read what you’ve already written and continue writing.

T – Time yourself. Write for 20-30 minutes. Write the start time and the projected end time at the top of the page. If you have an alarm/timer on your PDA or cell phone, set it.
