Happy Tuesday morning guys! So nice to see many of you yesterday. Ms. Dennis and I will be finishing our rounds today after morning meeting. Today is a morning meeting at 9:00 for everyone. Hope you can join!
For today’s question we’re celebrating Siena’s birthday. Get ready to sing on Meet! What would you get Siena for her birthday? Sky’s the limit! I would get you a ride on a unicorn! 🦄 So magical! Hope you had a great birthday yesterday and even better year!

Good morning everyone
Your task today is to begin adding values to your drawing.
Step 2 objective: Complete your drawing by adding a full range of values in black, white and gray tones.
The drawing should not lose any detail, but rather be enhanced by the values to show light, shadow and the illusion of 3 dimensional space by adding shadow.
Please view the PowerPoint presentation titled Value Presentation 2 to get a better understanding of how values effect shadow and depth. The presentation called Value Drawings will provide excellent examples of work in black and white using a full value range.
Your values will be achieved by using varying pressure on your pencil to achieve very dark tones(heavy pressure), or very light tones (light pressure). Small details are made by using a sharp point, broad areas of value are made by using the edge of the pencil. Smooth transitions of value can be done using your finger to blend and smudge or a tissue to do the same thing. Filling your drawing with a wide range of values can be a time taking step so be patient.
As always take your time and enjoy what you are drawing. Anything worth doing is worth doing well.
Mark as turned in when you finish.

Good morning everyone.
Almost time for a 4 day weekend!
Today we will begin our final art project of the school year.
Drawing a view through a window is a challenging task but there is something rewarding about trying to capture what you can see through each pane of glass or section. When you start, lots of decisions are going to be made. Which window has a good view? Where are you going to sit? Are you going to draw any of the inside, or just the window frame and outside?
Your task today is to draw a view through a window. First look at the examples I have included in the linked folder.
These were not all done by students so do not get nervous.
You will immediately notice that all of these drawings are black and white.
I am challenging you to also draw in black and white. Include all different gray tones necessary by using different amounts of pressure with your pencil. These are called values.
You can blend and smudge with your finger or a tissue.
Remember to lightly sketch and plan your drawing before adding detail. Pay close attention to the size of objects as they get further away as well as the amount of detail you see in far away objects. Objects changing in size, height on the page and amount of detail is what we call visual perspective. We are drawing the way our eyes actually see things.
For today please sketch and draw your picture with all the detail you feel is necessary. Next class we will talk more about value and using black, white and gray. If you feel ready to begin adding your values to your drawing you may.
As always take your time and enjoy what you are drawing. Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Welcome to June- the last month of school! Hope you all a nice weekend. I loved watching the space launch of SpaceX Crew Dragon and docking at the International Space Station. 🚀🧑🏼🚀✨ I had so many questions watching everything- did they nap on the 19 hour trip to the ISS?, why did they have a flip sequin Dino?, how long will they be at the ISS?, Was there a bathroom on the SpaceX Dragon? Take a look at the Brain Pop about the International Space Station for more info.
Today’s morning meeting group is:
Olivia, Alex, Siena, Brianna, Brinley, Kaitlin, Joseph, Heidi, Kate, Owen V., Charlotte
On to today’s question, if space travel becomes a thing for everyone, would you take a trip out of this world?

Using the notes of the treble clef staff, see how many words you can "spell" with notes like we did with the past two assignments.
You can make your own staff (five lines, four spaces) and add a treble clef to the beginning like I make on my white board at school. Remember, your treble clef doesn't have to be perfect, the greatest composers had trouble making them! Send me what you come up with! Have fun :-)

Good morning.
It is time to begin adding color to our projects.
The color you add must be done using what is known as color theory.
Piet Mondrian used only primary colors in his later work. He chose those colors because they are the simplest most basic colors to use. You will have more choices than that.
I would like you to choose one of the following color schemes:
1. primary colors - red, yellow and blue
2. secondary colors - green, orange and purple
3. warm colors - red, yellow and orange
4. cool colors - blue, green and purple
5. monochromatic (one color) - any color plus a darker shade of that color and a lighter tint of that color.
example - red, pink (tint), dark red (shade)
You may only choose one scheme and must stick to it. Black will also be used to fill in the lines.
Some white spaces should also be showing. Please look at the examples in the folder.
Take your time, be neat and show good craftsmanship.

We are going to keep working on the treble clef staff and expand a little beyond the five lines and four spaces. If you recall, we use Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge to remember the lines of the treble clef staff and FACE to remember the spaces. Sometimes notes go above and below the staff and that's where knowing those names and the musical alphabet (ABCDEFG) is helpful. If a note is in the open space below the staff, stuck to the E line it is the note that is right before E (one step lower than E) and comes right before it in the musical alphabet. That note is D. The next note below that comes before D in the musical alphabet and that is...you guessed it...C! C has a line that goes through the note head (the round part). That line is called a Ledger Line. That line would be another line in the staff but because we already have five lines, we don't want to add another so we put that line just through the note that needs it. That's how we can tell the difference between a C and a D. (That C with the ledger line is called Middle C.) Some notes have two or three ledger lines!
The same rules apply for notes above the staff. So a note sitting on top of the top F line would be the next note above F, the next note in the musical alphabet, which is G. The next note above that would have a ledger line and would be the next note in the musical alphabet and since we just finished that alphabet, we start over with A again.
Do your best to spell the words by naming the notes. Use the labeled notes on the staff to help you. You can turn in your answers through this assignment page or via email, whichever is easier for you. Have fun!

Good morning.
I hope you enjoyed drawing your favorite animal last week.
Today we will begin the next step of our project.
Piet Mondrian was an abstract artist. Late in his career as an artist he simplified his art work into the most basic structure he could.
He only used vertical and horizontal lines to create his work.
We will be doing the same thing with our drawings.
All the lines you draw in your contour must be made with a ruler and must be perfectly straight vertical or horizontal.
These lines will create right angles where they intersect. Erase where they meet so they appear as shown in the example.
Please look at the examples of step 1 and step 2 in the folder.
We will discuss color options next class.
For today I would like you to make sure your contour is accurate and that all the lines you draw are straight.
This will take time and patience, but will look great when finished. You should go over your contour with a black marker.
I will be looking specifically at the accuracy of your contour and how well you work with the ruler. These are the 2 most important parts of the project thus far.

Yea! It’s finally Friday! 🥳 Today our Meet Morning Meeting is for the whole class. We will be checking in with each other to see how things are going. Please answer the multiple choice question below too! Remember it’s ok to need help! I used Mrs. Beers, Ms. Dennis and a whole team of teachers. My sisters are teachers too. I like talking with them because they feel similar to how I do (minus chasing Teddy upstairs-ACK!).
Ms. Dennis and I are using today as a catch up day. We’re hosting our meetings as scheduled but if you need to catch up work, you can skip the meeting and do catch up work.
I hope you have a great weekend! Don’t forget Sunday is Mother’s Day. Make a card or paper flowers with a toilet paper tube vase. I know you will try and make the day special for all your wonderful moms. We can’t live without them and all their hard work. Thanks moms! 💐 ...and grandmas too!🌷

On to today’s question! Yesterday Ms. Dennis reminded everyone of the ELA assignments. Today is a Math Assignment check. ONLY if you haven’t submitted ANY math Teacher Checks with me then here is today’s assignment:
Since we returned from Easter Break you should have completed 5 Math Teacher Checks:
-Out of all the math lessons you have done, share your top 3 with me
- Send a picture of your 3 favorite lessons to me [email protected]
- They are due by Thursday May 7
-Then make sure to clear out your math assignments by “marking as done”
If I do not receive 3 math lessons from you by then, I will assume you did not see this assignment and will contact your parents so they can pass the message on to you.
If you have submitted Teacher Checks then you are all set this morning and can just enjoy the Brain Pop.I appreciate your hard work. I know these are tough times but I'm here for you. If you need help, please email me.

Good morning.
If you have not completed your Pop Art project please do so. Sign it and share with me if you can. Remember to mark as turned in so I know you completed it.
Today we are going to learn about Piet Mondrian.
Please look at the PowerPoint presentation to learn a little about the artist and his art style.
Just like Jasper Johns, Piet Mondrian also has artwork at the Albright Knox Art Gallery.
Piet Mondrian was an abstract artist which means he created his art work using only shapes and colors that did not represent anything recognizable.
We are going to create "Mondrianimals" for our project.
Your animal shape should be recognizable but nothing else about the animal will be natural.
Please start by drawing a contour drawing (only the shape, no detail) of your favorite animal. Please use a reference for accuracy.
The animal is the focal point of the work so it should be drawn large and neat. Remember to sketch first and than modify your drawing for neatness and accuracy of shape.
Your animal drawing should have almost no detail or texture. You may add an eye or mouth if you would like.
Please look at the completed examples in the folder to see the contour shapes of the animals.
We will discuss the lines and colors next class.
Have fun!

Hi everyone! I’m stealing Mrs. Gajewski’s question from yesterday for the teachers. What is one of your favorite Easter traditions or memories? I love dying Easter eggs. I like to make striped patterns and ombré colors. I will spend like 10 minutes on just one egg.
Just a heads up, tomorrow’s Morning Meeting will be a Zoom meeting. The link to the meeting will be posted tomorrow with the morning meeting question. No worries if you can’t join this time.
Also, I attached a video I made of how to complete these questions to make sure everyone is turning in their answer and not just adding a comment. Please take a look!

Good morning students! Hope you had a nice weekend. Today I want you to share the last person you video conferenced with (FaceTime, Zoom, etc). This weekend I FaceTimed with my sisters but the last call was with my dad. Think about reaching out to someone today. Maybe call someone you haven’t talked to recently. Don’t forget to check with your parents first.

Pop Art - Step 2
Good morning everyone.
Please complete your pencil drawing portion of the Pop Art project. I hope you all looked at the examples as they are a little different than what we had started in school.
Today please begin adding color using colored pencil, paint, or any other art supplies you have at home. Crayons should be a last resort. Marker can be used limitedly to add highlights and contrast.
Remember that pop art is recognizable but unique and creative in its approach to simple objects. Your job is to be creative and make a semi abstract representation of the chosen object or objects without making them completely unrecognizable. I would again ask everyone to look at the examples I have attached.
I have added a .pdf file of examples so no one should have a hard time viewing them.
We will spend a couple class sessions adding color as it takes some time to do well. Please spend 30 to 40 minutes on this step.
Have fun with color.
