PRESS RELEASE: St. Gregory the Great Honors the Blessed Carlo Acutis During Mass and Relic Veneration

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY - St. Gregory the Great Parish and School celebrated the Feast Day of the Blessed Carlo Acutis on Thursday, October 12. The day was marked by a special Mass celebrated by Bishop Michael Fisher, who also blessed a new statue commissioned in honor of the Blessed Carlo Acutis. Students also had the opportunity to venerate the relics of Carlo Acutis.

The Feast Day of the Blessed Carlo Acutis holds immense significance for the St. Gregory the Great community. Carlo Acutis, a devout Catholic and an inspiring example of youthful piety, was beatified on October 10, 2020. His life serves as an example of devotion, love for the Eucharist, and a deep passion for the Church. His beatification has resonated with the faithful worldwide, and his legacy continues to inspire young people to deepen their faith and embrace the teachings of the Church.

Bishop Michael Fisher, who led the celebratory Mass, emphasized the importance of the Feast Day and Carlo Acutis' significance in the modern world. He spoke of Acutis as a beacon of faith and an example of how the youth community can make a profound impact through their devotion and love for the Church.

During the Mass, Bishop Fisher also blessed a new statue that has been commissioned to honor the Blessed Carlo Acutis. The beautifully crafted statue will stand as a symbol of Carlo's unwavering faith and serve as a constant reminder of the parish and school’s commitment to nurturing spiritual growth in its students.

Public viewing of this exhibit and veneration of the relics will begin Thursday, October 12, after the 12:00 noon Mass. The exhibit will remain open on mornings and afternoons through Sunday, October 15.

In addition to the statue, Father Leon Biernat, Pastor of St. Greg’s, blessed a new eSports room named in honor of Carlo Acutis. This unique tribute acknowledges Carlo's love for technology and his ability to integrate it with his faith. The eSports room will serve as a space where students can come together to not only enjoy their passion for gaming but also deepen their understanding of the intersection between faith and technology.

In partnership with the parish community, St. Gregory the Great School dedicates itself to provide a quality academic foundation; to the formation of faith through knowledge and understanding of the church; to provide a spirit of welcome, compassion and reconciliation; and to encourage the generous development and sharing of our God-given talents.
