St. Gregory the Great school offers an art program with the objective of giving the student a visual language as well as a means for greater self-expression. Various art techniques and concepts are used to create art work that emphasizes creativity, emotion, decision making and problem solving. Lessons are developed and provided to show that art is useful and necessary. Students are given the opportunity to:

  • Grow in spiritual and moral values

  • Learn skills, concepts and facts

  • Become aware of themselves and their feelings

  • Realize the creative aspect of all human endeavor given them by God

  • Make decisions

  • Create art productions

  • Develop an appreciation of art history

  • Identify and use the elements of art and principles of design

  • Use sequential steps to create art in 2 and 3 dimensions

  • Create art independently and in small groups

  • Describe and interpret personal art work and selected artist’s works
